17.02.2023 MAINZ 05 STRENGTHENS GERMAN-KENYAN TIES THROUGH FOOTBALL

17.02.2023
2023 IS A SPECIAL YEAR FOR GERMAN-KENYAN RELATIONS: THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY WAS THE FIRST COUNTRY TO RECOGNISE KENYA UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW AFTER IT GAINED INDEPENDENCE IN 1963.

Germany regards Kenya as an important partner in a crisis-ridden region and its most important economic partner in East Africa. Beside that the Bundesliga is also celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2023.

These celebrations thus provide the perfect setting for various measures to further strengthen this special relationship between the two countries through the emotional lever of soccer. The 05er Football School would like to train a total number of 60 coaches and 600 children in Kenya in 2023.

International 05er Coach Markus Becker traveled to Kenya for the first time in January. More than 80 kids and 15 coaches took part in the two-week program. At a kick-off event on January 31 with representatives and coaches from four different clubs from Nairobi, Becker was also supported by Thomas Wimmer, Head of the Economic Department at the German Embassy in Nairobi.

"We are very happy about this great start and about the fact that our initiative has received such an excellent reception. We want to use soccer to build further bridges between the two countries and give many coaches and children on site the opportunity to get to know Mainz 05 and the Bundesliga better", saiys Felix Rentschler from Mainz 05. Thanks to our partner Inspire Group for the fantastic organization.
